Where should you start?
Begin with the decision in front of you. A wardrobe overhaul, a difficult dress code and a bag that must carry a laptop call for different questions.
Build a wardrobe you actually wear
Map a normal week before making a shopping list. Keep the combinations that work, identify the missing layer and decide which pieces deserve alteration.
Resolve fit before choosing a size
Compare garment measurements with something you own. Check movement, shoulder placement and the length you need with your usual shoes.
Finish an occasion outfit
Work from the invitation, venue and weather. Rehearse the whole outfit, including the coat, bag and shoes, before the day.
Pack for a city break
Choose shoes for the walking you will do. Build repeatable layers around them and leave room for the weather to change.
Try this before buying
Photograph three complete outfits with the proposed piece. If each combination needs another purchase, pause. The useful addition is often a quieter one: a better-fitting trouser, a practical outer layer or a belt that finishes clothes already in rotation.
